Sea fishing feathers are artificial or natural feathers attached to hooks to catch fish. They are also known as mackerel feathers or Hokkai rigs.
How they work
When pulled through the water, the feathers look like small fish.
This attracts predatory fish to attack and get caught on the hook.
Types of feathers
Tinsel or silver feathers: Designed to reflect the sun
Daylight feathers: Better in cloudy weather
Natural or synthetic feathers: Dyed in a variety of colors
How to use
Feather rigs are attached to a mainline or leader.
The feathers are usually strung with 4–6 hooks.
Some anglers prefer to use a mix of colors.
Red feathers and tubing are particularly effective for pilchard and herring.
Tips
Three hook feather rigs are less likely to tangle when casting or reeling in.
Sabiki Lures and Hokkai Lures can catch a wider range of species.
You can purchase a few different styles so you can change your approach on the day.
