🎣 Egg Flies – Stillwater Trout Fishing
Egg flies are simple but very effective trout patterns, particularly on UK stillwaters and reservoirs.
They imitate fish eggs and can be especially useful when trout are feeding around spawning areas or when eggs are being washed into the water.
When to fish them:
🎣 Autumn and winter can be excellent
🌧️ After rain or when water is coloured
🐟 Around areas where trout or other fish are spawning
💨 Useful when trout are feeding close to the bottom
How to fish them:
Floating line + long leader for fish feeding higher in the water
Intermediate line when you need to get down a little deeper
Slow retrieve with occasional short pulls
Try fishing one static or very slowly before speeding things up
Popular colours include orange, pink, peach, yellow and white, with brighter colours often worth trying when the water is coloured.
