Why Fish a FAB?
The FAB, or Foam Arsed Blob, features a foam tail that raises the butt of the fly. When combined with a retrieve, this creates a twitchy, enticing movement in the water that can be deadly for attracting rainbow trout.
How to Fish It
🎣 Sinking or Intermediate Line
Fish it with a long, slow pull, then leave it for a few seconds to allow the fly to rise before pulling again.
🎣 Floating Line
Try fishing it as an attractor fly, particularly when you want to search different depths.
🎣 Washing-Line Style
Use the FAB as your top/dropper fly with buzzers suspended beneath it. This allows you to cover different depths and present your buzzers effectively.
Adjustable Foam Tail
I tie my FABs with a long foam tail, giving you the option to fish them high in the water or adjust them to fish deeper.
Want to get it deeper? Simply snip a little off the foam tail. The more foam you remove, the deeper the fly will fish.
This gives you a really versatile fly that can help you present your buzzers at different depths, giving you more opportunities to find where the fish are feeding.
