GCFflies out and about.

Hi all i did a quick post last night when I got home from my 1st fishing trip in nearly three months and boy what a trip it turned out to be. We got to the fishery at about 8am, and when we got there the weather was cloudy, mild, and not a breath of wind, but strangely there was not a lot of fish rising. Therefore, I decided to rig up two rods with the bung and another with an intermediate ready for pulling a lure. I decided that I would start on the bung set-up: I always fish a two-fly set-up and the two flies I went with were on the dropper at only about a foot and a half down was my Green Goblin egg and another two feet down on the point was my Trout Flesh egg fly.

Within the hour I was up to five fish and had missed loads as they were taking very gently. However, the bung started to go quiet, and with still not much surface action, I decided to go on to the lure.

After my old man had 29 the week before, I decided to try my new Orange and Black fritz that he used, and it did not disappoint. I will come back to this in a moment. Whilst I was catching a few fish Connor was struggling a wee bit, but after a few changes he started to take a few fish throughout the day Flies that worked for him were very similar to what I was fishing under the bung only difference was he had a red shimmer worm as his point fly all at the same depth as me. In the end, Connor had 24 for his session, which included four Goldie’s, his main fly that was working for him was the Green Goblin under the bung, and he also fished the Black & Orange fritz also worked great him well.
Nice Rainbow taken on the green Goblin.
My old man also joined us, but he hardly ever fished the bung and yesterday was no exception. He stuck with what he liked best pulling a lure and once again had a great day fishing my Orange & Black Fritz ending up with 28, two of them were about 4 lb, and one was estimated at 11 lb so another great day for him.Ok back to how I got on by early afternoon, the sun broke through the low clouds and the whole place went quiet due to the sun and heat, but at this time of year the sun is that bit lower so headed for the island that has trees on it and started to fish under the shade of the trees. I fished the bung once again, I was picking up a fish or two, but it was slow so decided it’s time to go that little bit deeper and started to pull a lure on the intermediate line and it was instant hit after hit do not get me wrong most of the time; they were pulling the tail, but it kept my interest.
The sun never left us all day, but at about three in the afternoon, the sun was right behind the trees that are on the island, so it was casting a nice shadow over the water and that in turn got the fish in the mood. I started to hook the fish all on black and orange lures. One thing I like to do at Fourge is to take a fish in every pool. I have done this for sometime now, so I made sure that I accomplished this yesterday even though I had to move out of the spot I was catching them at.

All in all I ended up with 39 all Rainbows. One of them was just over the 5lb mark as I weighed it but my biggest looked so much bigger but totally forgot what I was doing and got it back in the water without weighing. My estimate was about 8 or 9 lb. Once more we had a great day. The ponds were still green but if you look past that the fish are still there and taking well and we had 91 fish between us and I would say that 80% of them were on the Orange & Black Lure. P.S I did take my GoPro but forgot the harness for it so no videos sorry but this Friday we have an invite to fish a private fishery so hopefully get some videos done.Granite City Fishing (GCFflies)
